Upper central incisor- an inderdisciplinary approach
When esthetically and functionally planning complex rehabilitations, all specialists across dentistry-from maxillo-facial surgeons to prosthodontists- start with the end in mind: the 3-D position of the upper incisal margin.
When working on interdisciplinary cases, it’s important for orthodontists also to be able to correctly appreciate the status of the upper incisor, and find the appropriate solution.
And sometimes, we might get one of those cases that fall into the “gray zone” and for which no individual approach offers optimal results. A well conducted, individualized orthodontic treatment may turn a difficult- in a medium difficulty-grade case, and one that requires great sacrifice of dental or periodontal tissues into a minimally invasive approach. The reverse situation is equally frequent, when orthodontics by itself cannot esthetically and functionally finish complex cases in a satisfactory way. That’s when we might integrate other specialists in our treatment planning.
That is why it’s important for us to recognize the complex problems our patients may have, our own limits in adressing those issues, to individualize protocols and find the common ground to efficiently communicate with other specialists.
The objectives of the presentation are:
– Go over the esthetic analysis that might help orthodontists make the correct diagnosis
- Recognize clinical situations that deviate from ideal
- Recognize clinical situations when interdisciplinary collaboration is indicated
- Present clinical situations of interdisciplinary collaboration
